The Promise Center of Homewood Inc.

INTRODUCTION

In order to address the 21st century educational and workforce needs, The Promise Center of Homewood (PCH) mission is to create a STEAM(science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics) based program beginning in Homewood which is 1 at a  lower socioeconomic status and 2 predominantly African American. PCHS program will work independently,  but in conjunction with public, private, parochial, and charter schools kindergarten thru grade 12. PCHs program, will consist of provision before school feeding and tutorial program for those students who live within a very close proximity to PCH. Daily after school tutorial of reading and math programs, combined with STEAM experiential projects.

Our Story

Homewood is a predominantly African America neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., Which is officially divided into three neighborhoods: Homewood North, Homewood South, and Homewood West. Homewood is located in the easternmost of Pittsburgh, bordered on the east by East Hills, on the west by Lincoln-Lemington Belmar, and on the south by North Point Breeze. According to state test scores, one school in Homewood has only 9% of its students proficient in math, and 22% in reading, and another school with 13% of students proficient in math and 23% in reading. It is very clear, students attending public schools in Homewood are in dire need of math and reading tutorial help.
